Round One Sign-Ups HERE!

This is the official sign-up post for the Jane Austen Round. Please read about what qualifies for this round here.

Sign-ups will run until April 6, 2010. Proxy sign-ups ARE allowed, if you can't make that window or if you do not have a Livejournal. If you like, please copy your sign up over to Dreamwidth, here, so it will be easier to pair up between both places. All fics will be posted to both Dreamwidth and Livejournal.

Assignments will be sent within a week or two of sign-ups closing.

The Rules

1. Fanfic should be:

* At least 1000 words in length, sufficiently beta read/free of spelling and grammar issues.

* It should also contain any and all HTML that you wish included (such as italics). I will NOT go back and edit these in for you; your fic will be posted as it is received.

* Not part of a series, or a sequel to a fic that the giftee may not be familiar with.

* Based on the prompt originally assigned to you. No switching prompts/recipients without consulting with the mods first.

2. The mod assumes the right to approve and deny extensions (and multiple extensions) as she sees fit. I am likely to be generous if you ask ahead of time.

3. If you are kicked out of the first round of19thc_exchange, you will not be eligible to participate in the next round. (Though you can participate in the round after that.) You can only get kicked out of 19thc_exchange if you fail to turn in a fic, or turn in a fic significantly after the due date without having requested an extension.

4. Submissions should be emailed to 19thcexchange at gmail.com. You can also contact lettered (or joy on Dreamwidth) directly with comments and questions.

5. Submissions are due July 12th at 11:59 PM PST. Posting will begin July 13th.

Please think very carefully before you sign up, and please only do so if you can make the commitment.

Please read flyingcarpet’s guide to being a good fest participant for starters. Think about your own writing abilities, how fast/slow you write and how good you are at meeting deadlines, because there is nothing more frustrating to a mod than the flaky and inconsistent.

Round one sign-up form

Please fill in every required field.

Proxy sign-ups ARE allowed, so if you are going to be away during the sign-up period, you may ask a friend (or the mods) to sign up on your behalf.

You MUST put your age/make an age statement. No one under the age of 18 can write/draw and/or receive NC-17 work. Those under 18, however, CAN participate.

Please note that you should use the field regarding canon preferences to note whether you'd like a fic based on a specific Jane Austen canon. For instance, you can pick “Pride and Prejudice”, and then you can specify you wish the fic to be 1995 Pride and Prejudice compliant (i.e., the wet shirt happened). Basically give your writer/artist guidelines for which novel, movie, or real life event they should work from when creating your gift.

You can also leave several prompts with preferences for different Jane Austen canons. (E.g. one prompt for an Emma fic, one prompt for a P&P fic, etc)

Here’s the coding for the sign-up. Please cut and paste the following into your comment:

Email: millernumber1@gmail.com

Age: 23

For the gift you would like to RECEIVE
Kinks, genres or special requests: Romance, fluffy, do like a bit of angst but only if it ends with fluff, PG-13 at most.

Squicks/Things you'd hate: Slash

Canons: Emma (book), Emma (2009), Emma (1996 Beckinsale), P&P (book), Sense and Sensibility (book), Sense and Sensibility (2008)

Two or three prompts for your gift(optional): Jane/Darcy (without killing anyone) (I fully expect to NOT get this one); Emma's father dies; Elinor and Edward's daughter as she grows up.

For the gift you will be GIVING
Kinks/Things you will gladly write: I don't know much about kinks, so probably shouldn't try. Like romance, fluff, a tiny bit of angst, friendship, parenting. Don't mind killing characters, if someone really wants it – but it will end happily (as much as possible) even if that is the desired starting point.

Kinks/Squicks/Things you REFUSE to write: Slash.

Highest rating you will write: PG-13.

Your writing strengths, or genre you feel most comfortable writing: Introspection.

Canon: Pretty much anything except: Jane Austen's life (especially Becoming Jane, but am not really interested in doing a biographical fic on the author in any canon); any Mansfield Park film (70s, 99, or 07) but will definitely write for the book (am ardently pro-Fanny and Edmund); any of the 70s-80s films. Other than that, I'm pretty much good. Though I'd prefer to write for something other than Pride and Prejudice, unless someone wants a non-Lizzy/Darcy story.

Name/LJ: choco701 (or if you know me from FF.net or C19, ChocolateIsMyDrug)

Email: niyer09@gmail.com

Age: I'm over 18

For the gift you would like to RECEIVE
Kinks, genres or special requests: the Emma/Knightley wedding night (preferably rated R and no more - would love the focus to be on their feelings and responses to each other rather than the mechanics of it all); post-engagement conversation between Emma and Mr Knightley about their feelings (sometime in this conversation Emma has to confess that her jealousy over Harriet opened her eyes); the Emma/Knightley proposal going differently in some major way but with the same outcome (e.g. she blurts out something like 'Don't marry Harriet!' and he's completely confuzzled, or something else in that vein); set a couple of months after Emma and Knightley's wedding, every time they try to cosy up to one another, they're interrupted by a clueless Mr Woodhouse (fic must end with them finding a way around this while still living at Hartfield).

I hope it goes without saying that in every request of mine there has to be copious amounts of Emma/Knightley fluff.

Squicks/Things you'd hate: Slash, pairings that are non-canon in spirit (e.g. Emma/Frank in love with each other; but I wouldn't mind them together if Emma is pining for Mr Knightley all the while, see?)

Canons: Emma, novel and/or 2009 adaptation

For the gift you will be GIVING
Kinks/Things you will gladly write: Don't think anything rated PG-13 could have a kink, so that might be ruled out. But basically anything in the rating and genre(s) I'm comfortable with, in the canons I provided below is fine. I would prefer canon pairings (and would most prefer to write Emma/Knightley), but if anyone really wants it, I can write Emma/Frank, Jane/Mr Knightley, Miss Taylor/Mr Knightley, etc. I will write Henry/Fanny if I'm allowed to make them miserable and repenting ever getting married ;-).

Kinks/Squicks/Things you REFUSE to write: Lizzy/Darcy ;-) (have nothing against them, but there's way too much fic for them); slash; happy Henry/Fanny

Highest rating you will write: PG-13

Your writing strengths, or genre you feel most comfortable writing: Friendship, romance, humour, angst but with a happy or at least hopeful ending

Canon: Will most gladly write for Emma (novel and/or any of the adaptations except the 70s one; would prefer to write Emma/Knightley); Mansfield Park (novel, 07 adaptation, 99 adaptation if allowed to focus on the Edmund/Fanny aspects and ignore the major deviations from the novel) - warning: am extremely pro-Edmund/Fanny and hate the ship Henry/Fanny;

i! Thank you so much for signing up! Only three people signed up for this exchange. With me, that makes four. I don't think this is a very good number for this sort of exchange, but I wanted to see what you think. If you want to go ahead and try, I'm willing to write anything to fulfill the requests of those who signed up, so I'll throw my name in the hat too.

Meanwhile, even though you signed up, I hope you consider taking this poll. It's asking what would tempt people to sign up, but I'm still interested in what would have made it more tempting for you, or why you did sign up. I really thought more people would--I'd like to get this ball of ours rolling! Thanks again for signing up.

Yeah, it would be more fun with lots of people, but we can still do it, right? It's still possible...

If it will work, I'm happy to go ahead (LOL... I got excited and already wrote someone's request before I was assigned it). :)

Right now, we have one yea (you), one nay, one on the fence (me), and one who hasn't said anything. I'm going to cancel this round, and do an open-style fest instead.

I reeeeeeally hope you post the fic you wrote for the fest--I'm looking forward to reading it!

Since so few people signed up, I'm changing the format of this exchange to an open style fest. I hope that you will still participate! Thanks again for signing up--so sorry it bombed.

I'd love to participate however it works - but I'm a bit confused as to what an "open style fest" is and how it would work. But I'm still very up for writing (whether people will be happy with what I write is a completely different matter, of course :-)

I've just posted the guidelines here.

Basically, anyone writes anything they want, as long as it's based on 19th c. canon. Um...I've never really understood this style of ficathon; it's so general--you'd think that people are already writing whatever they want, so there'd be no point to signing up. But I think it's a comfort to a) have a deadline, b) know other people are doing it, c) provide a reason to write a particular fic at a particular time. There may be people who've always wanted Emma fic, but just never had the impetus to just sit down and do it. So I'm hoping some of those people will be up for it!

Also, there's a prompts post where the people who had requests for this exchange can put their requests. This might also be inspiration for those who, say, wanted Emma fics, but never really knew what to write about.

So glad you're still interested in writing!
