Round One, and a poll

OOnly three people signed up for this round of exchanges. (hi, ibmiller, choco701, and beatriceotter! You guys rock!) With me, that makes four. I am contacting each of the participants individually to see whether they want to go ahead and try the exchange, but personally, it may be difficult with such a small number.

So, I’ve also created this nifty poll! It’s about what you’d like to see from this comm, and what you would want it to be if you did participate, or what would tempt you to participate.

Are you taking this poll?

yes

I didn’t sign up for this round of exchanges:

ONLY because I forgot/didn’t know April 6 was the due date. In fact, I'm going to go sign up right now because it might not be too late!
1(20.0%)
because I forgot and/or couldn’t make up my mind about it and/or was never interested in the first place.
4(80.0%)

I didn’t sign up for this round of exchanges because:

I wasn’t interested in the theme for this round (Jane Austen).
0(0.0%)
I don’t know enough about the theme for this round (Jane Austen).
1(16.7%)
I don’t like the format of this exchange. (E.g. I wish it was more open ended.)
0(0.0%)
I am intimidated by the format of this exchange. (E.g. I was afraid someone would request that I write something I didn’t want to write.)
0(0.0%)
I am intimidated by writing fanfic set in this time period.
1(16.7%)
I am intimidated by writing fanfic.
0(0.0%)
I don’t have time, or have other commitments right now.
3(50.0%)
Other people weren’t signing up.
0(0.0%)
I forgot.
0(0.0%)
I wanted to wait and see how the first round went.
0(0.0%)

The main reason I didn’t sign up for this exchange was:

I would be more likely to sign up to write 19th c. fic:

If the theme for the round was a specific book/adaptation/author/theme/other that I am interested in. I will comment and tell you about it below!
3(100.0%)
If there were no themes for rounds, and instead each round allowed us to write for any book/adaptation/author/theme/other.
0(0.0%)

The 19th c. fandom I am most interested in is:

Hello, thing that won’t post my poll. This is the question for this pq tag: I would be more likely to sign up to write 19th c. fic if instead of an exchange, we had an event in this format:

Claim Your Prompts format. Everyone posts prompts in a free for all, and then at a specific time we claim prompts.
0(0.0%)
Kink Meme format. Everyone posts prompts in a free for all, and then at any time anyone can write anyone else’s prompt.
1(14.3%)
Challenge format. A general theme, such as “Jane Austen” or “modernization” or “19th c. sci fi/fantasy” is announced, and by the end of a set time period, everyone posts fics they have written that meet the terms of that theme.
0(0.0%)
Big Bang format. Everyone signs up with an intention to write a fic of a certain length or longer, and by a certain date they must complete said fic, and fics are posted in the comm.
0(0.0%)
Fest format. Everyone signs up with an intention to write a fic, and by a certain date they must complete said fic.
2(28.6%)
Some other format which I will detail in the comments.
0(0.0%)

The format I would be most tempted by is:

I’m a member of this comm because:

What I would like to see from this comm is:

Hello, why won't this freakin' poll POST???

I am of an unsocial, taciturn disposition, unwilling to speak unless to say something to impress the whole room.
4(57.1%)
I believe I have seen hell, and it’s white. Snow white.
0(0.0%)
Do you think because I am poor, obscure, little, and plain, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!
1(14.3%)
I’m just thinking of the distances we travel and yet how far we've still to sail as men.
0(0.0%)
That’s way harsh, Tai.
0(0.0%)
I have invented an invaluable permanent invalid called Bunbury, in order that I may be able to go down into the country whenever I choose.
0(0.0%)
If only I could be like father and crave violence and go to war and stand up to the lions of injustice.

One thing very clever, be it prose or verse, original or repeated--or two things moderately clever--or three things very dull indeed:

I'm not much of an Austen person, and an exchange centered around Austen didn't strike me as particularly interesting because it seems like there's already plenty of Austen fanfic out there. I'd be way more excited about an exchange centered around somebody that doesn't get as much fic produced for them. I do like exchanges, because they can push me to write things slightly outside my comfort zone, which I enjoy.
