Round One Redux - Prompts!
lettered wrote in 19thc_exchange
Here you can post any ideas for fics based on 19th c. canon. You can request stuff, say what you think would be cool, offer stuff up for grabs, etc.

You also don't have to post a specific prompt. You can post a canon you would like to see someone write fanfic for, or an idea you would like to see explored. For example, "Someone please write a Daniel Deronda fanfic!" or "I'd like to see a fic that examines class issues in the Victorian era!" or "Someone write a fic set in 19th c. China; I don't care what canon, for the love of God!" etc.

Please remember that no one is required to write any of these prompts; you are not making a request that will be filled. Please also remember that multiple people can use one prompt. Once it's posted here, you can't claim a prompt, even if it was initially your prompt to begin with. Anyone can use it to write their fic.

Ready, set, go!

Some stray ideas

-"Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" fic that isn't Stephen bloody King.

-Anything Poe. Further adventures of Arthur Pym? Check. Usher finds true love? Check. Montresor/Fortunato slash? Check.

-The Redemption of Uriah Heep

-Frankenstein/Castle of Otranto crossover of Gothic Doom

-Nemo meets Moreau? Nemo meets Philip Nolan? Nemo meets Captain Ahab? Honestly, any Nemo nautical crossover probably works for me.

-The Redemption of Uriah Heep

I would love to see this! I read something recently that said Dickens based Heep off of Hans Christian Anderson. He admired Anderson at first, but then had him as a house guest. Anderson fawned over so much Dickens grew sick of him, then didn't know how to get him to leave! Don't know how true the story was, but I feel sorry for Uriah. Dickens made him so unrelentingly disgusting.

For Poe, I'd go for William Wilson/William Wilson slash ;o)

Some ideas:

* Mansfield Park: how did Edmund get to 'preferring soft light eyes to bright dark ones'? When did he stop regretting Mary and start loving Fanny?

* Mansfield Park: what if Fanny finally yielded to Crawford and agreed to marry him? Would Edmund realise that he loved her? What would happen to the Crawford/Maria plotline?

* Emma: what if the proposal had gone differently in some major way (e.g. Emma bursting out with 'Don't marry Harriet, marry me!', or after refusing to hear him out she doesn't renew the conversation)?

* Emma: what if Knightley had gotten into the carriage with Emma and Elton after the Christmas party?

* Emma: when exactly does Knightley realise he loves Emma? What were the circumstances which prompted this realisation?

* Emma: what happens when Emma's father dies?

* Emma: what if Mr. Knightley proposes to Emma a lot earlier in the novel (say after the Christmas party, or the dinner at the Coles')? What's her reaction?

* Emma: over the years, from being such a close friend, has Mr. Knightley ever happened upon her less than formally attired after she's grown up (e.g. with her hair out, just after she's bathed, in a nightgown, etc.)? What are his thoughts?

* Emma: after hearing something John says, his kids decide that they don't want their Uncle George to be a lonely bachelor forever, so they when they come to Hartfield for Christmas, they try and set him up with the most eligible lady they can find - their Aunt Emma. The results are hilarious, embarrassing for the pair and ultimately successful.

* Hard Times: what if Louisa actually had run off with Harthouse?

* Mary Barton: what if Mary doesn't care that it's 'unladylike' to run after Jem and tell him she's changed her mind about refusing his proposal?

* North and South: what if the stone had hit Mr. Thornton instead of Margaret?

* North and South: what if Thornton runs into Margaret and Mr. Bell, as they happen to be visiting Helstone at the same time?

* North and South: a modern story set in 1960s Germany recently after the building of the wall ('East and West' as opposed to 'North and South'). The Thorntons are of course from the East and the Hales move there from the West.

* Wives and Daughters: how do Molly and Roger finally get together?
